Opera Gallery hosts exhibition of contemporary Latin American art
Industry Sector [] Art & DesignCountry [] United Arab Emirates Client(s) []Dubai International
Financial Centre (DIFC)
Opera Gallery, supported by the DIFC Lifestyle Group, is hosting ‘Latin American Flavour’,
an exhibition that introduces some of Latin America’s most accomplished contemporary artists to Dubai.
Ranging from greats, such as Fernando Botero, Romero Britto, Roberto Matta, Ruben Berland and Wilfredo Lam, to talented
upcoming artists like Federico Uribe, Romero Britto, Ahmed Gomez and Diego Masi, the event showcases 12 artists from Argentina,
Chile, Colombia, Cuba and Uruguay.
The artists featured in the exhibition span a range of themes and artistic perspectives.
On one end of the spectrum are modern masters like Wilfredo Lam, who created his own artistic approach by fusing classical
Surrealism and Cubism with the spirit and form of the Carribean; and Roberto Matta, an important member of the Surrealist
art movement.
On the other end are younger artists like Romero Britto, whose neo-pop works blend elements of cubism
and graffiti painting; and the artist duo Marco Guera and Yasmina Alaoui, whose "one thousand and one dreams" series combines
photographic figure studies with pen and ink patterns.
Abdulla Bin Sougat, Chief Executive Officer of the DIFC Lifestyle
Group said: “Latin American Flavour’ provides audiences in Dubai an unprecedented opportunity to see a rich and
diverse selection of art that represents the true spirit of contemporary art in Latin American countries. As part of creating
a vibrant lifestyle experience within the Dubai International Financial Centre, we are keen to support such exhibitions that
serve to enhance the creative and cultural ambience within the financial district and create opportunities for audiences to
engage with the very best of international contemporary art.”
The exhibition also features performances by Triburbana,
a versatile group of Latin American artists, who take audiences on a musical journey from Mexico to Argentina, through a variety
of instruments, folkloric rhythms and choreography. Triburbana’s performances give audiences a taste of the rich and
colorful scenery of Latin America and a fascinating insight into Latin American culture. Artists who are part of the band
are Emmanuel Alvarez; Maximiliano Aguirre; Paula Ruiz; Julia Ledesma Dall'Asta; and Cassiano de Sa.
The exhibition
‘Latin American Flavour’ will run at the Opera Gallery in the Gate
