	Norwegian Opera and the National Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Ballet     For great dance stories and information click on this link:     *** Opera manager Bjørn Simensen and ballet manager Espen Giljane today presented the programme for the very first season at the new opera in Bjørvika. The premier season in the new opera house lasts from 12 April 2008 to 20 June 2009. The audience will in this period have the opportunity to experience 29 productions, 12 premières and 9 world premières. "This is a great day in the history of the Norwegian Opera and the National Ballet. Now we can finally show our Norwegian and international audience what they can expect of the artistic programme in one of the most spectacular opera houses in the world", states opera manager Bjørn Simensen in a press release. The Norwegian Opera maintains both tradition and cutting edge with the première programme in Bjørvika. The opening productions will be the world's newest and the world's oldest opera: Around the world in 80 days by Gisle Kverndokk and Øystein Wiik on the main stage, and Claudio Monteverdi's 401 years old Orfeo on stage 2. The audience will also be reunited with old acquaintances such as Wagner, Mozart, Verdi and Strauss; and will be able to experience new works from contemporary Norwegian composers. The program offers big international and Norwegian stars, and famous singers will be performing together with the Norwegian Opera's ensemble. The opening season will also offer world class orchestra, when conductors like Neeme Järvi and Jeffrey Tate visit the Norwegian Opera. The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Dissimilis, and Bollywood are among the guests for the first season, and look out for rock's entry at the Opera! In the National Ballet's first show on the main stage, the whole Opera house will be used: A Night of Dance with Jirí Kylián (working title) takes the audience on a tour of the many rooms under and behind the stage. The National Ballet will maintain a classic repertoire with shows like The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake on the main stage. Stage 2 will be an important arena for Norwegian and international modern dance.
